D13 425HP XE Package
Volvo D13 is an in-line 6-cylinder, 12.8-liter, diesel engine using a high-pressure unit injector system, overhead camshaft, and a twin-entry turbo using a water-cooled exhaust manifold. This contributes to world-class fuel efficiency and excellent operating economy, combined with very low emissions.

Not only does D13 engine boast power but fuel efficiency as well. With the full weight of 2605 the D13 is the most efficient engine in its class saving money and hauling loads much more profitable.The XE13 (exceptional efficiency) package allows the truck to operate in a lower rpm range at a given vehicle speed, typically turning 200 rpm slower. Customer data has indicated trucks with the XE13 package consistently operate in the engine’s sweet spot of 1,050 to 1,500 rpm, with up to 70% of their operation in the most efficient range of 1,100-1,200 rpm.

The engine is designed and built to be immensely strong, with a rigid cast-iron cylinder block and cylinder head. This gives high reliability and long-term durability.

The high-tech fuel injection system helps make the engine highly fuel efficient. The control unit monitors several parameters which reduces the overall fuel consumption.

Downspeeding: The key to saving fuel.
“Downspeeding” is Volvo’s term for lowering engine rpm at a given vehicle speed to save fuel. The Volvo XE13 powertrain package is designed to cruise comfortably in the engine’s sweet spot, reducing engine friction and increasing fuel efficiency.

For every 100 rpm of downspeeding, Volvo’s new XE13 Package can improve fuel efficiency by approximately 1.5%. Since the Volvo XE13 package downspeeds the engine by 200 rpm or more, you’ll realize a total fuel efficiency increase of 3% or greater. Savings are even more impressive for light loads or empty return loads.
